As a seller, how can you make your home stand out from the
crowd? We all know the importance of
curb appeal, cleanliness and price, but I want to focus on technology. With millennials being the predominate buyer
of 2017, how can you attract the smart phone generation? Make your house smart!
Think Smartphone Apps
Upgrading to a smart thermostat such as the Nest which allows you
to program your home’s temperature from your phone. Consider swapping your light bulbs for
Easybulb Smart Bulb, or adding a Bluetooth Smart Wall Switch over your existing
light switch to give ultimate control of lights to users. Equip your standard alarm system with wireless
cameras. Replace your ancient smoke and carbon
monoxide detectors with smart detectors. Smart deadbolts allow for keyless home
entry without leaving the “inconspicuous key under the fake rock” that you
think nobody knows about.
Think Smart Kitchens
Smart refrigerators are the latest. LG offers a refrigerator with a built in
camera to check its contents without even opening the door. Sounds crazy, but it would definitely leave
an impression with buyers. More budget
friendly kitchen upgrades include no-touch faucets, hands free soap dispensers and
motion censored trash bins.
Think Smart Entertainment
Pre-installed surround sound is a big bonus for most
buyers. Simpler options include high electrical
outlets, and pre-wired HDMI cables for obvious TV locations such as fireplace
mantles. If your house lacks exterior
electrical wiring, consider installing outlets and lighting around patios and decks that create an ambient atmosphere.
Think Smart Nervous System
Alternative sources of power will always turn heads. Solar panels used for your primary energy source or for secondary uses such as heating a swimming pool, a detached workshop or for reserves is never a bad investment. When it comes to plumbing, tankless water heaters and low flow toilets will catch a buyer's attention.
Millennials are now the majority in the buyers market. Do not discount a younger buyer as easy to please. Think smart, be creative and make your house sell for top dollar by equipping your house with smart technology.
